2,2’:6’,2”-Terpyridine (tpy) is a versatile ligand for complex formation with transition metals. Particular interest rests in 4’-substituted tpy ligands and many substituents can be directly inserted by the Kröhnke methodology. The placing of electron-withdrawing or electrondonating substituent in the 4’-position of 2,2’:6’,2”-terpyridine alters the electronic properties of the whole ligand.
